The Constitution is the supreme law of the law in Uganda. It was enacted in 1995. The Constitution provides protection of the environment including all the flora and fauna in it.
The Uganda Wildlife Act, 2019 provides for the conservation and sustainable management of wildlife; seeks to strengthen wildlife conservation and management; enforces the continued existence of the Uganda Wildlife Authority; streamlines the roles and responsibilities of institutions involved in wildlife conservation and management; continues the existence of the Wildlife Fund; and repeals the Uganda Wildlife Act, Cap. 200.
The Fish Act provides for the conservation, fishing, purchase, sale, marketing and processing of fish, and related matters.
The Fish (Amendment) Act, 2011 amends the parent Act to provide for the retention by the Department of Fisheries Resources, of fees received from the issue of licenses and permits under the Act; requires the Chief Fisheries Officer to establish and maintain a register of all persons issued with licenses under the Act; requires a certificate of vessel ownership and a fishing vessel identification plate to be displayed on every licensed fishing vessel; enhances penalties for violation of the provisions of the Act and related matters.
The Animals (Prevention of Cruelty) Act Cap 39 makes provision for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Animals (Prevention of Cruelty) Act Cap 39
The Animal Diseases Act Cap 38 provides for matters relating to diseases of animals. It makes provision for measures to control diseases affecting animals. In the Act, “Animals” means all stock, camels and other ruminating animals, cats and dogs, but does not include any other animal, except such as may be declared by the Minister by Statutory Instrument to be included in the term “animals” for the purposes of this Act.
The Animal Diseases (Amendment) Act makes amend the parent Act and enhances the penalties prescribed for offenses under the Act or otherwise contravening any of the provisions of the Act.

The Animals (Straying) Act relates to the straying of animals.
The National Forestry and Tree Planting Act, 2003 provides for the conservation, sustainable management, and development of forests for the benefit of the people of Uganda; to provide for the declaration of forest reserves for purposes of protection and production of forests and forest produce. It further provides for the sustainable use of forest resources and the enhancement of the productive capacity of forests. It provides for the promotion of tree planting; consolidates the law relating to the forest sector and trade in forest produce and establishes a National Forestry Authority. The Act repealed the Forest Act, Cap. 246 and the Timber (Export) Act Cap. 247.
