Help African Animals is a nongovernment organization based in Uganda. Our mission is to protect the lives of African animals by influencing the human mindset and behavior towards animal protection. Our vision is to be Africa’s leading experts in Animal Law.
Help African animals accomplishes this mission by raising awareness about animal law. We specifically raise awareness about wildlife crime and other crimes against animals, the nature and effect of those crimes, the importance of animal protection, the laws protecting animals, and punishments for violation of the laws among the stakeholders of the criminal justice system, institutions of learning, and the general public. We also advocate for the enactment of stronger animal protection laws and their enforcement.
We influence the human mindset and behaviour through:
- Organizing for animal law workshops for judges, magistrates, prosecutors and law enforcement officers where we educate them about the different laws that protect animals in Uganda, the offences created under the laws, how to prove those offences, exhibit handling, trail preparations, examining witnesses, making opening and closing statements, penalties provided by the laws, and the effect of wildlife crimes and other crimes against animals.
- Holding of community wildlife talks through which we travel to villages and meet the true keepers of wildlife in Uganda – the rural people, and educate them about the laws protecting animals in Uganda and the penalties for violation of those laws, wildlife crime, the importance of wildlife and how to conserve wildlife in their areas.
- Making and distribution of laws protecting animals in Uganda to the criminal justice system stakeholders, institutions of learning, and the general public.
- Making and distribution of posters that educate people about wildlife crime, crimes against animals, the laws protecting wildlife, and penalties for their violation.
- Advocating for the enactment of better animal protection laws in Uganda.
- Advocating for proper enforcement of animal protection laws.
Through raising awareness Help African animals saves the lives of animals that would be killed and people that would have to suffer as a result of animal-related crimes. The fight against animal-related crimes is a fight for humanity because the crimes affect both humans and nonhuman animals. We strive to contribute to making the world a safe place for animals and humans.
Help Africa Animals is driven by the belief that: “Unless people understand, they won’t care. Unless they care, they won’t help. Animals don’t speak. Let’s speak for them.”
Every person in their different professions/roles has an opportunity to protect animals. Support us to enable us to save the lives of animals and people.
