The Uganda Wildlife Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him for the second time over illegal trade in elephant ivory. Ochiba Pascal alias Ismail aged 62 was on October 20th, 2022 sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted with an offence of unlawful possession of two pieces of elephant ivory contrary to section 71(1)(b) of the Uganda Wildlife Act of 2019.
Ochiba was in 2017 convicted on two counts of unlawful possession of four pieces of elephant ivory and a dry skin of okapi, an animal that is extinct in the wild in Uganda.
